Born in Gaza in 1932; joined the PLA; holds the rank of a Major-General; was Ein Jalut forces battalion commander from 1967-73, brigade operations officer from 1973-76, and commander of brigade units in Lebanon from 1977-82; member of the PLO Central Council; with the establishment of the PA became head of Civil Police in Gaza; was appointed Commander of the united security organizations in Gaza by the Palestinian National Security Council on 16 Oct. 2003; was retired in 2005 but then appointed by Pres. Mahmoud Abbas as Chief Security coordinator for all PA security departments in June 2006, died on August 5th 2013.
