Born in Kubyba in 1943; studied at the College of Fine Art, Helwan University, Alexandria, Egypt, graduating with a BA in 1966 and an MA in 1975; held a variety of positions in the PLO, incl. Chairman of the Palestinian Association for History and Antiquities, Commissioner of Artistic and Cultural Development in Political and Moral Commissarial-Public Security; General Political Commissioner of Palestinian Police; and Deputy General Political Commissioner; co-founded with Mustafa Al-Hallaj the Studio of the Revolutionary Artists of Damascus; continued his studies and earned a PhD in Archaeology from Khartoum University in 1993; co-founded the General Union of Palestinian Plastic Artists, the Al-Ard Artists Group, and supervised a Palestinian Cultural and Artistic program in Africa his art work resolves around Palestinian heritage and the longing for freedom; a recent drawing depicts the destruction of Jenin (2002); also teaches at Al-Aqsa University; served as Sec.-Gen. of the Association of Palestinian Artists; wrote a book on Palestinian cultural heritage.
