Born in Ramallah in 1956; PFLP activist from an early age; after 17 years in hiding, was arrested on 1 Sept. 1992, on suspicion of being a PFLP leader and “providing services for an illegal organization” and put under administrative detention, which was continually renewed until 15 April 1998, making him the detainee held longest in an Israeli prison without a trial; wrote several books while in detention; after signing the ‘A Cry from the Homeland” petition in Nov. 1999, was arrested by PA forces on 29 Nov. and transferred to the Jericho prison to await the prosecution of the State Security Courts; was held for three weeks without charge; has reportedly rejected the post of Deputy PFLP Sec.-Gen. at the Jul. 2000 conference; has not taken the high profile leadership role that many in PFLP expected him to take; PNC member; serves as member of the Editorial Board of the Kana’an magazine.
