AHMAD ZEID GHNEIM

Born in the Old City of Jerusalem in 1960; received his elementary and secondary education in Jerusalem; was arrested several times by the Israelis, the first time at the age of 16; joined Fateh in Jerusalem in 1978 and its Al-Asifa forces in South Lebanon in 1981; received military training by Fateh in South Lebanon; received a BA in Social Studies from Al-Riyadh University, Saudi Arabia, in 1984; was twice arrested in 1984, and the second time imprisoned for three years for his involvement with Fateh; served as Director of a Counseling Center for Addicts from 1989-94; member of the Fateh Higher Committee since 1990; was a member of the Palestinian delegation to the Washington peace talks during 1991-93; was a member of the Preventive Security Forces from 1994-96, holding the rank of a General; continued his studies (distance MA in Psychology from Beverly University, US); Deputy Assistant in the Ministry of Local Government since 1996; member of the Fateh Revolutionary Council since 1997; close to Marwan Barghouthi and served as head of his electoral campaign in Dec. 2004 until his withdrawal from the elections; one of the Fateh representatives to the national dialogue among Palestinian factions; became a member of the National and Islamic Forces in the second Intifada; served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Local Government from 2004; has published several papers and articles incl. a study on Jerusalem and a study on Palestinian borders.
