Born in Jaffa in 1885; served as representative of the Christian Roman Catholic community of Jaffa; anti-Zionist; fled to Greece in 1905 following a fight during which a Jewish immigrant was killed; in 1916, was deported to Anatolia by the Ottomans for his support of Sharif Hussein’s revolt of that year; became a supporter of the Al-Husseini faction during the British Mandate times; was elected to the 7th Palestinian National Congress in June 1928 as Christian representative; became a member of the Palestinian delegation to London in 1930, demanding an end to Jewish mass immigra‑tion, land acquisition in Palestine and the establishment of a representative government; was elected Vice-Pres. of the Palestinian Arab Party in March 1935; member of the first Arab Higher Committee formed in 1936, representing the Christians; member of the delegation at the London Conference, St. James Palace, in Feb. 1939; rejected the British Government’s White Paper proposal; member of the Palestinian delegation to the 1946-47 London Conference on the future of Palestine; member of the Municipal Council of Jaffa; died in 1956.
