Born in Beit Jala on 14 Feb. 1954; attended the Maronite School in Beit Jala; then went to study Anthropology at Leningrad State University, Russia; continued his studies and received an MA in Visual Anthropology from the Granada Center in Manchester, UK; returned to Palestine and worked as a Professor of Cultural Studies at Bethlehem University since 1980; made his first short film in 1991, entitled Sahar’s Wedding and dealing with the theme of arranged marriages; has since filmed numerous documentaries on different issues of Palestinian society, which have been screened throughout the Middle East as well as in Europe and the US; his films include We are God’s Soldiers (1993), I am a Little Angel (2000 – which won the 2005 Golden Award for Short Films at the Cairo International Festival for Children’s Cinema), Dignified Life (2002), and Tear of Peace (2003); also teaches Film Language at Bethlehem University.
