HASSAN FATEEN TAHBOUB

Birth: NULL/NULL/1923 Death:NULL/NULL/1998
Born in Hebron on 8 July 1923; attended public schools in Hebron and Jerusalem; graduated from Al-Rawda College School in Jerusalem; worked in the field of journalism as an editor for the Magazine (The Voice of Hebron/ Sawt Al-Khalil); held different jobs in administration and accounting in Hebron, Jerusalem, and Amman; lived in Jerusalem; was appointed as Director of the Islamic Waqf in Jerusalem from 1961-1971; contributed in the establishment of the Islamic Higher Committee and was elected as its Secretary, after the Israeli occupation in June 1967; served as Director General of the Islamic Waqf in the West Bank from 1971-1984; established and headed the Board of Directors of different associations and committees, including: Islamic Bait Al-Rahma for Elderly, Arab Society for the Physically Handicapped, Housing Society for Islamic Awqaf Employees, and the Al-Quds Committee for Welfare and Development; retired from the Islamic Awqaf in 1984; was elected Chairman of the Islamic Higher Council in 1993; headed the Muslim-Christian Arab Council in Palestine; was appointed as the first Minister of Waqf and Religious Affairs of the new established Palestinian Authority in 1994; opened his office in the Old City of Jerusalem near Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound; was injured in the head by Israeli forces during protests against the digging and opening of a tunnel underneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1996; died on 27 April 1998 in the Arab Medical Center Hospital in Amman and was buried in the Ikhshidid Cemetery (Cemetery of Martyrs) near the Lions’ Gate in Jerusalem.
