Born in Tulkarem in 1908; was educated in Damascus; graduated from the English College in Jerusalem in 1930; taught at various schools in Palestine; worked as an inspector in the Educational Administration (Al-Ma’aref) in Jerusalem during the British Mandate era; continued his education in the UK in 1945 and joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC); his most notable program “qawloun ‘ala qawl” was based on teaching English for Arab speakers; was considered a major reference for British encyclopedias dealing with Arabic language, literature and philosophy.
