HENRY CATTAN

Birth: 26/6/1906 Death:NULL/NULL/1992
Born in Jerusalem on 26 Feb. 1906; was enrolled at the Frères School in Jerusalem; received a Diploma in Journalism from the University of London (1926); continued his studies and graduated with a Barrister in Law from Paris University (1929) and with an MA from the University of London (1932); joined the Palestinian Bar Association in 1932 and began lecturing at the Jerusalem Law School (until 1942); member of the Palestine Law Council (1940-1948); gave evidence before the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry on the Palestine Question in 1946; in 1947, presented the Palestine Arab case at the second special session of the UNGA at Lake Success on behalf of the Arab Higher Committee; represented the Palestinians at the UNGA sessions in 1947-48; was appointed by the Arab League for discussions with Count Bernadotte, the UN mediator on Palestine; following the Israeli occupation of West Jerusalem, he was forced into exile to Damascus, Beirut and finally Paris; published several books while in exile like Palestine, the Arabs and Israel: the search for Justice (1969); Palestine and International Law (1976) and The Garden of Joys: An Anthology of Oriental Anecdotes, Fables and Proverbs (1982); died in Paris in 1992.
