Born in Acre in 1936; grew up in Acre and Jerusalem; holds a BA (1959), MA (1962) and PhD (1974) in Electrical Engineering as well as a BA in Economy (1967); served as Director of the Jerusalem Electrical Company from (1966-74); was Vice-Pres. of the Jordanian Water Authority from 1974-76; worked as specialist on energy for the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Growth from 1976-1980; became General Manager of the Jordanian Electricity Authority in 1984; appointed Jordanian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources in 1984 and 1985; considered one of the world’s leading energy experts; serves as Honorary Vice-Chairman of the World Energy Council; possesses a rich and varied collection of paintings, lithographs, travel books, maps, atlases, and photographs on Jerusalem, Palestine, and Egypt, which is considered one of the largest still in private hands; has published widely on energy matters and the global environment, incl. Economic Evaluation of Projects in the Electricity Supply Industry (1996) and Palestine and Egypt Under The Ottomans (AUC Press, 2003).
