Born in Al-Bireh on 1 Dec. 1946; studied Pharmacy at Alexandria University, Egypt; returned and opened Al-Bireh Pharmacy; was associated with the DFLP; was elected mayor of Al-Bireh on 27 April 1976; was involved in the formation of the National Guidance Committee in 1978; narrowly escaped death or maiming by a car bomb on 2 June 1980 placed by Israeli settlers of the Jewish Gush Emunim Underground; was put under house arrest by Israel from Aug. 1980; was dismissed from his position by Israel on 18 March 1982 and replaced with an Israeli official.
