Born in Safad in 1925; received a Diploma in Education from the Teachers’ College in Jerusalem and later a BA in Education from the AUC in 1956; specialized in children’s education in the UK; taught at the Teachers’ Training Institute for Women in Ramallah; worked in the Jordanian Radio in 1959-60; became Director of the Girls’ Training College, UNRWA, Ramallah, in 1960, serving in that post until 1975; then Dir.-Gen. of the UNRWA Institute in Amman until 1977; was appointed Director of the Women’s Affairs Dept. in the Jordanian Ministry of Labor in 1977; member of the National Consultation Council since 20 April 1978; became the first female cabinet member in Jordan, serving as Minister of Social Development from 1980-84; served as special advisor for Queen Nur of Jordan and as head of the Queen Nur Foundation; Pres. of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women in Jordan; member of the International Steering Committee on the Economic Advancement of Rural Women; member of the UNESCO’s International Commission on Education for the 21st Century; Member of House of Senate in Jordan.
