IZZ EDDIN SUBHI AL-SHEIKH KHALIL

Birth: 1/1/1962 Death:24/9/2004
Born in 1962 in Gaza City; graduated in Islamic Studies from the Islamic University in Gaza; joined Hamas soon after its foundation in late 1987; is said to be one of the founders of Hamas’ military wing, Izz Eddin Al-Qassam; in Dec. 1992, deported, along with over 400 other suspected Islamists militants, by Israel to Marj Az-Zuhur in South Lebanon; remained in exile afterwards, fearing arrest by Israel for his role in Izz Eddin Al-Qassam; settled in Damascus, from where he directed Hamas activities, incl. those of Yahya Ayyash, known as “The Engineer,” who was killed by Israel in Jan. 1996; was killed in a car bomb in Damascus on 24 Sept. 2004.
