Born in Khan Younis, Gaza, in 1959; studied Medicine and received an MA in Surgery from the British Royal College of Surgeons; worked as a physician; Fateh member; was imprisoned by Israel for eight years; was elected PLC member (independent) for the Khan Younis district in the Jan. 1996 elections; served as member of the PLC Committees on Education and Social Affairs and on Refugee Affairs and Palestinians Abroad; was appointed a member (without portfolio) of the Oct. 2003 Emergency Govt. of the PA; was appointed Minister of Health in the Nov. 2003 cabinet of PM Ahmed Qrei’a (until the new cabinet of Feb. 2005).
