JAWEED AL-GHUSSEIN

Born in Ramleh in 1930; businessman who made his fortune in construction projects in the United Arab Emirates (where he ran the Cordoba Development Corporation for a while) before assuming his PLO duties; independent member of the PLO Exec. Committee; was Director of the Palestine National Fund (PNF) in Amman from 1984-96 was accused of embezzling millions of dollars from PLO funds in 1991; was ordered by the London High Court to repay the loan in 1998 but could not and was formally declared bankrupt; moved to the UAE in 1999, from where he was forcibly taken to Gaza in April 2001 and placed under house arrest until he was transferred to a Cairo hospital in Nov. 2001 due to a deteriorating health situation; was later hospitalized in East Jerusalem from where he fled to London in Aug. 2002.
