Born in Gaza in July 1963 (son of Khalil and Initsar Al-Wazir); earned a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University, Wisconsin, USA (1987) and an MSc in Engineering Management from the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Wisconsin, USA (1990); from 1993-95 student and research assistant at the Human Resources and Change Management Unit at Loughborough University, UK; returned to Palestine and worked as Managing Director at the World Trade Center in Gaza from 1995-2000; also served as Director of the Multimedia and Business Resources Center in Gaza, overseeing a training program for journalists and reporters from 1997-2000; acted as Middle East coordinator of the World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland, jointly with the Peres Peace Center from 1998-2000; key organizer of US Pres. Clinton’s historic trip to Gaza in Dec. 1998; elected Board member of the Palestinian Businessman Association from 1999-2001; Board member and Vice-Chair of the Palestinian Industrial and Free Trade Zones Agency (PIFZA) since 2001; founder and chairman of the First Palestinian Internet Naming Authority PNINA from 2001-2003; Dir.-Gen. of the PA’s Government Computer Center from 2001-2003; earned a PhD in Business Administration from Loughborough University, UK, in 2002; wrote several policy-oriented papers especially on manufacturing in the Palestinian territories; Assistant Deputy Minister and Permanent Secretary of the PA Ministry of Planning from 2002-2005, Deputy Minister of Planning since Feb. 2005.
