KAMIL MUGHANNI

Born in Gaza on 27 Dec. 1943; received a BA from the College of Fine Arts in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1966, and an MA in the Psychology of symbols and colors in 1987; worked as an art teacher at An-Najah College in Nablus; was imprisoned for two years and his house was dynamited on fabricated charges of affiliation with the Palestinian resistance movement; has held numerous personal and group exhibitions in Palestine and abroad; won various prizes for his work, incl. the Shield of the General Union of Palestine Workers, Nablus (1976), the Award of the Palestine Environment Exhibition, Jerusalem (1978), the Medal of the General Union of Russian Artists (1979), the Medal of the Dandy Municipality, Scotland (1981), the Award for the best logo for the 1st Palestinian Social Conference, Jerusalem (1986), the Award of the Golden Sail, Kuwait (1989), and the Award of the 3rd Jarash Art Festival, Jordan; designed and implemented the memorial statue at the Palestinian wing in at the 1998 EXPO in Lisbon, Portugal; founding member of the College of Fine Arts at An-Najah National University in Nablus; served as Chairman of its Visual Arts Dept. until his retirement in 2000; now lives in Gaza City.
