Born in Jerusalem on 22 Aug. 1960; received a BA in Sociology from Birzeit University in 1986; MA in Rural Sociology from Nanterre University, France, in 1988; was coordinator of the Development Committee at Bisan Research and Development Center, Ramallah, from Oct. 1989-Sept. 1990; continued his studies and earned a PhD in Rural Development Sociology, from Nanterre University, in 1994; worked as coordinator of local and international NGOs at PECDAR, Jerusalem, from April 1994-Oct. 1994; then became Assistant Professor of Cultural Studies at Birzeit University in July 1994, and Assistant Professor in Sociology since Sept. 1997; also worked as Social Consultant for the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees (PARC) during 1994-95; Board member of the Bisan Research and Development Center from 1994-96; Visiting Research Fellow at MAS since Sept. 1996; headed Birzeit’s Sociology Dept. from 1998-2002; serves as Director of the Abu-Lughod Institute of International Studies at Birzeit since Sept. 2002; among his publications are Towards a Sociology of Civil Resistance: Palestinian Society during the Second Intifada (published by Muwatin, Aug. 2004).
