Born near Ramallah in 1954; studied Medicine at Rustow University, USSR, graduating in 1980; Exec. Committee member of the Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees (UPMRC) and Director of its Rehabilitation Program; Vice-Pres. of the Palestinian Council for Peace and Justice; has worked for UNRWA as a senior medical officer, and managed community-based rehabilitation and primary health care in Palestine, Jordan, Morocco, UAE, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Bahrain; active in the PNGO network and member of its Steering Committee; Sec.-Gen. of the Palestinian National Initiative (Mubadara), founded in 2004; acted as spokesman of the Mustafa Barghouthi campaign during the 2005 Presidential elections following the passing away of Pres. Yasser Arafat.
