Born in 1948; holds a doctorate in Medicine; was elected PLC member (independent) for the Nablus district in the Jan. 1996 elections; affiliated with Hamas; has been involved in the PLC’s Economic and Interior Committees; works at the Zakat Committee in Nablus; was among the signatories of the “Petition of the 20” opposing Pres. Yasser Arafat’s policies in 1999; was shot by unknown assailants in Dec. 1999 while returning home to Nablus from the PLC meeting in Gaza, in what was widely believed to be linked his speaking out about the PA’s corruption; ran unsuccessfully in the 2006 PLC elections (Independent, Nablus district).
