REEM TALHAMI

Born in Shefa-’Amr, West Galilee, on 6 Aug. 1968; moved to Jerusalem in 1987 and joined the music band Gorbeh from 1989-91, then the group Washem in 1993, performing in their only production ‘Ashiqa (with music composed by Suheil Khoury and lyrics by Wassim Al-Kurdi); studied opera music at the Rubin Academy of Music in West Jerusalem from 1991-96; her voice has accompanied several Palestinian theater plays; was involved with the Zimar contemporary Palestinian music group since 2002 and has appeared in duet performances with Jamil Al-Sayeh; participated in several film and theater productions plays, incl. Women of Sand and Myrrh by the Ashtar Theater (1999), Jidariyah (2005) and Akram Safadi’s documentaries Song on a Narrow Path (2001) and Jerusalem Back and Forth – Photographer’s Recollection (2005); cooperates with the Palestinian National Theater in East Jerusalem; has participated at numerous festivals locally and in Egypt and Tunisia; produced several cassettes and CDs in cooperation with musical groups such as Sabreen and Zimar.
