Born in Jerusalem on 9 March 1952; received a BA in History from the Arab University in Beirut in 1978; received a Diploma in Conflict Resolution from the American University, Washington; also received a Diploma in Journalism from an Institute in Virginia; worked in the field of journalism at “Al-Fajr” and “Al-Shaab” magazines; served as editor-in-chief of the “Al-Shaab” newspaper; was a member of the International Journalist Association (for two terms); was placed under house arrest by the Israeli authorities in Jerusalem for one year; was detained for six months during the first Intifada in 1987; worked as a coordinator for the Palestinian delegation to the Multilateral Talks; worked in the Orient House under Faisal Husseini (1993-1997); was elected Sec.-Gen. of Fateh in Jerusalem in 1998; worked at the Ministry of Waqf and Religious Affairs until he retired in 2011.
