Born in Ramin village in 1951; studied Medicine at Baghdad University; was active in the Palestinian student movement in Baghdad; joined Fateh in 1968; opened a clinic in Tulkarem; was criticized by some Palestinians for supporting normalization of relations with Israel; was talking peace with Israelis since the late 1980s; was arrested by Israeli authorities for six months then under house arrest for three years; was released in 1991 on the eve of the Madrid peace conference; was named as a PLO representative for the Madrid talks; worked as a dentist for UNRWA; was head of the Palestinian Dentists’ Association before the establishment of the PA; served as Dir.-Gen. of the Health Ministry; was a lecturer in Public Health at the Tulkarem branch of Al-Quds Open University; served as Fateh Sec.-Gen. in the Tulkarem district; his Fateh office in Tulkarem was destroyed by an Israeli missile on 16 Nov. 2000; was assassinated by Israeli undercover units while leaving his home in Ramin near Tulkarem on 31 Dec. 2000.
