YACOUB AHMAD ODEH

Born in Lifta village in 1942, Jerusalem; was displaced from his home during 1948; brother of Samir Ahmad Odeh became a member of the ANM in 1959; studied Law at Arab University of Beirut from 1962-68; worked for Kuwaiti TV from 1963-66; was one of the founding members of the General Union of Palestinian Workers in Kuwait in 1964; founding member of the GUPS in Kuwait in 1965; worked as a teacher at the Coptic College in Jerusalem from 1966-69; joined the PFLP in 1967; in 1969, was arrested by Israeli forces and his family home was demolished; was sentenced to three life terms in prison in 1970; was released in a prisoners-of-war exchange in 1985; one of the founders of Palestinian Human Rights Information Center (PHRIC) in 1986; elected Board member of the Society for the Protection against Illiteracy and for Childhood Development; founding member of the Palestinian Housing Rights Movement in 1994; became a member of the Habitat International Coalition in 1996; Jerusalem Human Rights and Housing Supervisor of the Land Research Center since 1998; Board member of the Addameer Prisoner’s Association and the Welfare and Development Society in Jerusalem; also works as an alternative tour guide in Jerusalem; is a member of the Coalition for Jerusalem; active in civil society organizations and a human rights activist.
