YOUSEF AL-KHATIB

Born in Duret Al-Khalil, Hebron, in 1931; completed his secondary education in Hebron; graduated from the Faculty of Law at Damascus University in 1955; was nominated for the first prize of Al-Adaab literary magazine in Beirut in 1955 for his collection Eyes Yearning for Lightness (Arabic, 1955); worked in a number of local and foreign radio stations for 15 years, incl. the radio stations of Damascus, Jerusalem, Riyadh, Cairo, Kuwait, Amsterdam and Baghdad; founded the Palestine Radio which was broadcasted from Damascus; was member of the Ba’ath Arab Party; played an important role in the Palestinian Writers’ Union; became Dir.-Gen. of the Syrian TV and Radio Corporation in 1965; established the Palestine Publication House in Damascus in 1966; was a co-founder of the Arab Writers Union in Syria; member of the PNC since 1968; was involved in setting up radio programs on Palestine in cooperation with Damascus Radio; publications include Diwan Al-Watan Al-Muhtal (1968).
