Born in Jaffa in 1938 into a Christian family; received an MSc in Engineering from the Technische Hochschule Stuttgart, Germany, in 1962, and an MBA from the European Institute of Business Administration, Fontainebleau, Germany, in 1967; worked as Vice-Pres. of the Phelps Dodge Corporation in New York and Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 1969-73; became Partner (seconded to the Olayan Group) of the American Express Middle East Development Company, Beirut, Lebanon, in 1974 (until 1979) and Vice-Pres. and Director of the Olayan Group, New York-Saudi Arabia, from 1974-94; Chairman of Intram Investment Inc., Orlando, Florida since 1993; returned to Palestine and became Chairman and CEO of the National Beverage Co. Ltd. (Coca-Cola), Ramallah, since 1997; Chairman of the Palestine Cellular Co. Al-Jawwal, Ramallah since 1999; also serves as Director of: the Middle East Capital Group (a merchant bank in the Middle East), Lebanon; the Palestine Development and Investment Co. (PADICO); La Vie S.A. (a leading manufacturer of organic food), France; Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Welfare Association NGO Consortium and of the Advisory Committee to The High Commission for Drafting the Palestinian Constitution.
