Born in Khan Younis on 27 June 1959; graduated from High School in Khan Younis in 1978; received a Licentiate in Law from Al-Mansoura University in Egypt in 1983; returned and opened his own law offices in Gaza City and in Khan Younis; is a member of the Palestine Bar Association since 1983; volunteered as a lawyer for political prisoners in Israeli jails; prepared a detailed study (23 volumes) about Israeli military orders and rulings in the Gaza Strip from 1967-94; continued his studies and received an MA in International Law from the American World University in 1996; is a member of the Egyptian Bar Association since 2002; earned a PhD in International Law (via distance learning) from the University of Juba in Sudan in 2003; is affiliated as lecturer at the Gaza Community Mental Health Program; following the death of Pres. Yasser Arafat, nominated himself as independent (Islamic) candidate for the post of PA Pres. for the 2005 presidential elections (in which he received 0.86%of the vote); campaigned for the right of return and promoted the continuation of the armed Intifada, saying the militant groups are the only defense for the Palestinians.
