Born in Jenin in 1954; holds a BA in Sociology from Birzeit University as well as an MA in Political Science, an MA in Public Administration and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Cincinnati, USA; taught in many different local and international institutions; also worked as a training expert in the fields of Public Administration, Institutional Development, Human Resources Development and Democracy, Civil Society and Human Rights; coordinated the UNRWA human rights education program; was assistant of the Pres. of Birzeit University; was assistant of Dean of Art at Birzeit University; Dean of Students’ Affairs; Director of the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies; Professor of Political Science at Birzeit University; was appointed – together with Hanna Nasser – to head the Central Elections Committee, which was set up in 2004 to organize a nationwide registration effort to precede both municipal and future national elections; regularly writes in local and international newspapers and magazines and has published many studies, incl. Legal Structure and Democratic Transformation in Palestine (1999), Elections and the Palestinian System (1994), The Intifada and Political Leaders in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (1986), The Palestinian Future: a Reading of Interventions (1994).
