Born in Nablus in 1951; joined Fateh guerilla cells in 1967 and got involved in their activities in Jordan and Syria; joined the Faculty of Arts at Mosul College in Iraq in 1970 and became active in GUPS; undertook training in the use of weapons and explosives in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq; was arrested in 1973 under allegations of putting explosives in Israeli transporters and was imprisoned for ten years; upon his release in 1983, continued his education at An-Najah University; became head of the Shabiba (Fateh youth movement); was frequently arrested by Israeli authorities as a student, placed under house arrest in 1985, and prohibited by the Israeli army to attend the university; was deported on 2 Oct. 1985; became active in Fateh activities in Jordan together with Khalil Al-Wazir; later was responsible for Fateh activities in the northern West Bank; was a member of UNLU during the first Intifada; after the establishment of the PA returned to Palestine in April 1994; became Sec.-Gen. of Fateh in the Nablus area (until 2000); earned a BA from the Faculty of Arts at An-Najah University and registered for post-graduate studies; was nominated by Fateh to the PLC elections of the Nablus District in 1996; member in the PA Higher Emergency Committee under Pres. Yasser Arafat; member of the Fateh Revolutionary Council in 1996; PNC member holding an observer status in the PLO Central Council; Steering Committee member in an institution related to economy and consumer services; became a member in the Higher Fateh Committee in the West Bank following the arrest of Marwan Barghouthi.
