Born in Beit Rima near Ramallah in 1957; was early involved in grassroots and labor activities, with a focus on Palestinian working women; served as Deputy Head of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions until 1994; was prevented by Israel from traveling for 15 years (1982-97); was also detained by Israel from 1991-93; is a member of the National Secretariat of the Federation and Head of its Women’s Dept.; was among the 1,000 international women engaged in working for a better future that were jointly nominated for the Noble Peace Prize 2005.
