Born in Al-Majdal on 14 June 1935; fled during the 1948 Nakba and ended up in Gaza; studied at the Teachers’ Training College in Cairo from 1954-57; was a co-founder of Fateh; transferred to Gaza following his political activity; worked as a teacher of Physics and Chemistry in the Gaza Strip; became head teacher in UNRWA schools in 1970; served as principal and teacher at the UNRWA school in Al-Shati’ Camp from 1970; was arrested in 1973 for membership in Fateh and was imprisoned for five years; after his release, was arrested again several times; later worked as headmaster of an UNRWA school in Burj RC; was considered a close associate of Pres. Yasser Arafat and a moderate; was murdered in Gaza by two masked gunmen on 21 Oct. 1993.
