Born in the village of Az-Zawiya (near Nablus) on 27 Dec. 1950; known as Zakaria Mohammed; studied Arabic Literature at the University of Baghdad; then spent ten years in Beirut, Amman and Damascus as a freelance journalist; returned to Palestine in 1994 and worked as jounrlaist and editor in Ramallah; became deputy editor-in-chief of Al-Karmel magazine by Mahmoud Darwish in Ramallah; member of the Board of Directors of the Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah; participated in the 1999 Medellin International Poetry Festival in Colombia, and the 2001 Arab World Institute poetry festival in Paris; has published collections of poetry, novels, plays, and several children’s books; also works as a painter and sculptor.
