Born in Jerusalem in 1906; studied at the Teachers’ College in Jerusalem and in Haifa during the British Mandate times; undertook art courses in the UK; worked as teacher of art in different schools and as inspector for art education in the Jordanian Ministry of Education, where he was influential in instituting an art curriculum; served as inspector for handicraft education; became art consultant for UNESCO in Libya; his paintings – especially those of Jerusalem landscapes – inspired many artists; some of his works were lost during an exhibition that took place in Lydda on the same day the city fell to the Israeli army on 11 July 1948; died in 2001.
