Born in Acre on 20 Sept. 1951; moved with his family to Nazareth when he was eight days old; was educated at the Nazareth Baptist School, graduating in 1969; received an LLB from the Faculty of Law at Hebrew University, Jerusalem, in 1972; trained at the Ze’ev Weil Law Office in West Jerusalem; received the Legal Practice Certificate in 1974 to become a member of the Israeli Bar Association; worked as a qualified lawyer at the Ze’ev Weil Law Office from 1974-77; opened his private law office in East Jerusalem in 1977, focusing on land cases, construction projects, town planning schemes, corporate, commercial, banking and administrative law, often challenging acts of the Israeli military and civil authorities in the High Court; defended cases related to settlements, house demolitions, land expropriations, acts of the Custodian of Absentee Property, residency rights, churches, charitable associations, and water allocation; was the first to win a case in the Israeli High Court against the building of settlements in 1977; received the Notary Public certificate in 1994.
