Born on 10 Sept. 1946 in Simsim, near Gaza; received his elementary education in Jabalia and his secondary education in the Jaffa Secondary School in Gaza; joined the ANM in 1962; received a BA in Business Administration (majoring in Accounting) from Cairo University in 1968; left the university to join the Palestinian resistance fighters in Jordan in 1969; became member of the PFLP; was arrested in Jordan in June 1977 for PFLP activity; moved briefly to Cairo in 1980, then was deported to Iraq and Beirut; active with the PNC since the 1970s and full PNC member since 1988; one of two PFLP representatives who are members of the PLO Central Council (the other being Ahmad Sa’adat); member of the PFLP politburo, serving as its head in Gaza; was elected as PLC member (PFLP-affiliated Marytr Abu Ali Mustafa list) in the Jan. 2006 elections.
