Born in Sakhnin, Galilee, in 1943; received a BA in Sociology and Political Science and an MA in Sociology from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem; PhD in Sociology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook; worked at the Guttman Institute for Applied Social Research in Jerusalem from 1971-78; then became lecturer at the Dept. of Sociology, Birzeit University in 1978-79 and served as the Dept.’s Chairperson in 1984/85-1986/87 and in 1995/96-1996/97; became Associate Professor at Birzeit University in 1993/94 and obtained full professorship in 2001/02; served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Birzeit Univ. in 1998/99-2001/02; has authored tens of articles, papers, and studies, incl. “Self Identity and Readiness for Interethnic Contact of Young Palestinians in the West Bank” (Canadian Journal of Sociology, 1998) and “Attitudes of Palestinians Toward Normalization with Israel” (Journal of Peace Research, 1999).
