Born in Nablus on 11 December 1950; attended school in Nablus, then studied Geography at the Arab University in Beirut; joined Fateh as a teenager; was arrested by Israeli forces in 1968 and imprisoned for three years before being deported to Jordan in 1971, where he became responsible for the exiles committee; moved to Lebanon in 1973 and served as chief of office to PLO leader Khalil Al-Wazir (Abu Jihad); was president to liberation movements of the world office , was secretariat to the committee of occupied land, was given a position in the supreme military junta of the PLO (1975-1982), joined the resistance against the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, in the aftermath of which he left with other PLO forces Lebanon to Tunisia; returned to Palestine in 1995; was appointed Governor of Nablus by President Yasser Arafat; lost his son Jihad in 2000, when he was killed by Israeli soldiers during the Second Intifada; was elected on the Fateh-Nablus list in the 2006 elections and became a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council; was appointed Minister of Labor in the National Unity Government in 2007; elected member of the Fateh Central Committee in 2009 and 2016; elected Deputy Chairman of Fateh on 15 February 2017.
