Born in Amman in 1959 to a Palestinian father from Nablus and an American mother from Texas; brought up in Lebanon where her parents lived near the Shatila Refugee Camp; studied Film at San Francisco State University in 1976; returned to Beirut in 1981; co-founded Nour Productions, together with her husband Jean Khalil Chamoun; produced some of the films he directed, incl. The Shadows of the City which won the Cannes Junior Award in 2001; her own films include the trilogy Children of Fire (1990), Children of Shatila (1998) and Frontiers of Dreams and Fears (2001), the latest of which was broadcast in several languages and has won ten international awards, incl. Best Documentary at the Arab World Institute’s Film Festival in Paris; has received numerous other awards and prizes for her films and documentaries.
