MASHHOUR AL-DAMEN

Birth: NULL/NULL/1918 Death:NULL/NULL/1998
Born in Nablus in 1918; graduated from Al-Azhar University in Cairo; became principal of Al-Ahmadiyah Shari’a School in Acre; Mufti of Nablus from 1952; later worked as expert consultant in the Saudi Interior Ministry; attended Al-Fiqh courses at Al-Ta’ef Shari’a Institute in Saudi Arabia; joined the Muslim Brotherhood and became one of its advocates in Palestine; was elected to the Jordanian Parliament in 1964; member of the first PNC in Jerusalem in 1964; elected member to the first PLO Executive Committee; member of the Higher Islamic Council in Jerusalem; returned to Nablus in 1994 and resumed the post as the city’s Mufti; member in the Palestine Higher Council for Issuing Fatwas (Islamic legal judgments); died in Amman in 1998.
