Born around 1917; member of Nablus Municipal Council from 1951; became mayor of Nablus on 16 June 1969 (replacing Hamdi Kana‘an, who had resigned on 12 March 1969); entrepreneur and Chairman of the Nablus Chamber of Commerce for over three decades; founder of the Vegetable Oil Industries Company in Nablus; ran in the 1972 elections and was elected as mayor; refused to run again in the 1976 elections, and became increasingly vocal in his criticism of Israel; died on 21 Aug. 1994.
