Born in Tamra on 17 Oct. 1955; studied Hebrew Literature and History; holds a BA from Ben Gurion University and a Certificate from the Schwartz Program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem; studied toward Community-Center Management at Hebrew University; worked as a teacher in a secondary school but was dismissed for his political activities; served as Deputy Mayor of Tamra from 1980-88; Chairman of the Management Council of the Tamra Community Center from 1981-1989; member and Sec.-Gen. of the Arab Democratic Party (Mada); was a Knesset member for the Unified Arab List from 1999-2003, during which time he was a member of several Knesset committees, incl., on Internal Affairs and Environment; Education, Culture, and Sports; the Status of Women; and Science and Technology.
