MOHAMMED HASSAN MILHEM

Born in Halhoul on 4 Sept. 1929; studied in Halhoul then at the Ibrahimiyyeh College in Jerusalem, graduating in 1947; worked as a Chemistry and Mathematics teacher for four years in the Arab College in Jerusalem; then left to Saudi Arabia, where he worked as training director for the Aramco Oil Company from 1950-55; later also worked as Human Resources Manager in Saudi Arabia; returned to the West Bank and worked as a teacher at Al-Hussein Bin Ali School in Hebron; studied English Literature at the Jesuit College in Beirut from 1973-76; was banned from traveling abroad by Israel in the late 1970s; co-founded with other mayors the Palestinian National Front in 1976; served as a deputy mayor of Halhoul until 1976, and as mayor thereafter until his deportation – together wit Hebron mayor Fahd Qawasmeh and Sheikh Rajab Al-Tamimi, Kadi of Hebron – on 3 May 1980 by Israel to Lebanon; independent member of the PLO Exec. Committee; returned and became again mayor of Halhoul; toured the US with MK Mordechai Bar-On in 1984 out of which came a videotape, “The Arab and the Israeli;” PLO Central Council member; returned to Palestine in April 1996; remains mayor of Halhoul; Board of Trustees member of Hebron University.
