Born in Jordan in 1963; educated at the Friends’ Boys School in Ramallah; received an MA (1988) in Philosophy (Epistemology) and a PhD in Philosophy (1992) from Moscow State University; is Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Philosophy and Cultural Studies since 1992, and served as its Chairperson from 1999-2001; member of the Board of Directors of the Jerusalem Center for Legal Aid and Human Rights since 1996; was a Research Fellow at the Center for Palestine Research and Studies in Nablus from 1996-2000; worked as Development Coordinator (1998-2003) and Council Member (since 1999) for the MA Program in Democracy and Human Rights; Research Fellow at Muwatin, The Palestinian Institute for the Study of Democracy in Ramallah, since 1999; Council Member for the MA Program in Law (since 2000); Senior Researcher at the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research. Ramallah, since 2000; Director of the Institute of Law since 2001; member of the Birzeit University Council since 2004; Acting Dean for the Faculty of Law and Public Administration since 2004; involved in several research projects and publications, especially on issues related to civil society, democracy and culture; his most recent work is Arab Culture in the 21st Century (Arabic, Ramallah, 2005).
