Born in Nablus on 4 Oct. 1945; studied Medicine and Surgery at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, graduating with an M.B.CH.B. in 1971; worked as Medical Doctor in the Governmental Health Dept. in Bethlehem from 1957-77; Medical Doctor at the Patients’ Friends Society, Ramallah, since 1978; was a Medical Officer at the Qalandia Health Center (UNRWA) from 1980-86; also served as Vice-Pres. of the Jordan Medical Council from 1982-84; became Senior Medical Officer at UNRWA’s Jerusalem Health Center from 1986-89; works as Medical Director at the Abu Rayya Rehabilitation Center in Ramallah since 1988; specialized further in Diabetology and Endocrinology at Zagreb University, Croatia, in 1989; serves as Medical Director for UNRWA, Central Health Area, since 1989; became an Executive Board member of the Palestinian Council of Health in Jerusalem in 1992; was Coordinator of the Technical Health Committee to the Multilateral Talks after 1992; served as Deputy Minister in the PA Ministry of Health from 1995-2003; serves as Advisor for Health Affairs to the PA President.
