NABIL KHOURY

Birth: 1/1/1934 Death:15/9/2002
Born in Jerusalem in 1934 into a Christian family; family moved to Beirut in 1948; worked as a radio columnist, journalist and writer; became broadcaster at the Voice of America in 1953; worked for several newspapers, incl. Assayd, Al-Hawadeth, and An-Nahar (Beirut), in addition to Al-Ahram (Cairo); was head of programs at the Lebanese Radio; moved to Paris and ran Al-Mustaqbal newspaper (set up by Lebanese PM Rafiq al-Hariri); wrote many articles and nine novels, incl. The Christian Quarter (Arabic, 1969), Winter Leaves (Arabic, 1993); suffered from a heart attack in 2000 while landing in Beirut from Paris; entered in a coma and died 27 months later on 15 Sept. 2002.
