Born in Deir Al-Kassi on 2 Sept. 1946; worked in the field of education from 1964-82; studied History at the Beirut Arab University from 1965-69, graduating with a BA; joined Fateh in 1965 and became involved in politics; undertook postgraduate studies in History and Education at the same university in 1970; also received a Diploma in Teaching and Education from UNESCO in 1970; served as Director of the Jerusalem Dept. at the OIC in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 1982-89, then as Assistant Sec.-Gen. of the OIC from 1989-93; became PLO Ambassador to Spain in 1994; serves as Dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Spain since 1999; member of the PNC; member of the Fateh Revolutionary Council; was an advisor on Islamic Affairs to the late Pres. Yasser Arafat.
