Born in Nablus in 1937; studied Chemical Engineering; leading private sector representative, and founder of many of Palestine’s investment companies and financial economic institutions; one of the biggest investors in the region, mainly in Jordan and Saudi Arabia; founder, proprietor and Chairman of the Riyadh-based Arab Supply and Trading Corporation (Astra); was the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Bank, then became its Chairman and then its Executive Manager since 1997; owns critical water rights in the region; co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of the PADICO, Chairman of the Board of PALTEL; founder and Chairman of the Board of the Palestine Securities Exchange in Nablus; Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Investment Fund (PIF) since 2002; also chairs the PIF’s Nominations Committee and serves on its Investment Committee; member of the Board of Directors of the Arab Bank PLC; Board of Trustees member of the Welfare Association from 1999-2002 and honorary member since then; also major shareholder and head of the Amman-based Zara Investment company; Board member of the Cairo Amman Bank, the Rum Agricultural Company, and Miftah.
