Born in Jaffa in 1948; ended up with his family in Beirut, then Damascus, following the Nakba of 1948; studied at the Teachers’ College in Aleppo from 1968; then studied History at Damascus University, graduating in 1972; returned to Beirut in 1973 and worked on Palestinian media since 1974; received an MA in Contemporary History from the Jesuit College in Beirut in 1979; writer in different Syrian and Lebanese papers; also worked as researcher at the PLO’s Palestine Research Center from 1982-94; continued his studies and earned a PhD from St. Petersburg University in 1996; came back to Palestine in 1996; works as an Associate Professor in the Philosophy and Cultural Studies Dept. at Birzeit University since 1998; also columnist at Al-Ayyam newspaper; writes on issues related to history, culture, politics and the press, incl. Palestinian Press in the Diaspora (1965-1994) (Ramallah: Muwatin, 2001).
