Born in 1860; from Al-Mazar, Jenin; was raised and educated in the village and worked in farming; was opposed to Ottoman policies and led a number of fighters opposing British policies and Zionist expansion plans in 1929; was active in the Palestinian revolution of 1929 and is believed to have triggered its first bullet; was imprisoned by British Police for three years; moved to Haifa upon his release; was fighting different battles and took over the leadership of the Palestinian Brigades after the death of Sheikh Izz Eddin Al-Qassam in 1935; became one of the leaders of the 1936 Revolt; fled to Iraq; was arrested in Nov. 1937 after an old gun was found in his home in Al-Mazar; was sentenced to death by the British High Commissioner after going on a hunger strike to demand better treatment in jail; was hanged at the Acre Prison on 27 Nov. 1937.
