Born in 1871; sheikh of a tribe from the Beersheba, Negev and Gaza area; head of the tribal court in the Negev; took part in the Arab Revolt of 1916; helped the British, when they entered Palestine in 1917, to enter Gaza; as a reward he was made a member of the Consultative Council representing the clans of Beersheba; became the first mayor of Beersheba in 1922; took refuge in Gaza after the Nakba of 1948; owned much of the land; died in 1955.
